Report from Fabriano In Acquarello 2019

I participated in the Nordic Group, representing my mother country Sweden in Fabriano, Italy April 2019. A large watercolor festival and exhibition with more than 1000 paintings on display all over the medieval town. Artists from all corners of the world gathered to share the love of watercolor, demos, lectures, workshops and a lot of painting activities. My painting on display at the exhibition was "Country Road Fall Colors" .
What is Fabriano in Acquarello , and why in Fabriano? I will try to explain.
This is a yearly watercolor event, 2019 was the 10th anniversary. "Fabriano in Acquarello promotes meeting, cooperation and creative exchange between international watercolour artists, among audiences and fans. It supports the traditional technique and at the same time wants to inspire new creativity and avant-garde methods for the involvement of new generations. The convention has no commercial or political purposes of any kind, but intends to be an operative base of brotherhood and seed for peace culture". An International watercolour museum is developed and one painting from each country is chosen to represent the event each year. The town of Fabriano, 1000 ft above sea level in the commune of Ancona. Fabriano was one of the earliest places in Europe to make high quality paper, starting in the 13th century. Fabriano still makes high quality paper, especially known for its watercolor paper and is the oldest operated paper mill in Europe. You can read more about it here http://www.fabriano.com

I stayed with the Nordic Group at a hotel next to San Vittore alle Chiuse, Genga. San Vittore alle Chiuse is Catholic abbey and church and known from the year 1011. At first, I was a little disappointed not to be in town, but I quickly changed my mind. It was a spectacular place with high mountains and a wonderful mist especially in the mornings and after the rain. I could have stayed there painting the entire time. A shuttle bus drove us back and forth each day and it was nice to get back to the hotel and relax in this beautiful area. What I enjoyed the most of this event was to connect with people from all corners of the world who all share the love of watercolor. To get to know the participants of the Nordic Group and Finland who had their own team. Connect with some of the artists from USA, some of them stayed at our hotel. To watch demos, look at wonderful paintings displayed in magnificent churches and town halls, the architecture......the list can go on. My painting will continue to travel to " Arte Nordica Fabriano Group Exhibition" Helsinki, Finland. Thank you for follow along.
