Spring News

Hello

Spring is here and it has been a while since my last blog post. I have been busy visiting family and friends, young and old. After spending my days with a six year old and a one and a half year old, I didn't have much energy to paint. Now I am back to my normal pace and the plein air season is here. I try to get out and paint outdoors a couple of days a week, usually in the morning when the sun cast nice shadows. There are so many beautiful places and old farms in our area in Pennsylvania but it is sometimes difficult to find somewhere to park. An area called Linden Hall has become my favorite place as I have found a place where I have a nice view from where I put up my easel. As I have mentioned before, my paintings painted on location "en Plein Air" have a certain freshness that is impossible to get in my studio. It has to do with the inspiration I get on site and the circumstances, the wind, the temperature , the humidity and other factors. Everything around me makes it impossible to be too precise and I like the loose result. You see my finished painting the "Old Stone House" from last week in this post.

I have some good news to share, my painting "Forgotten" was accepted for the Northwest Watercolor Society 77th Annual International Open Exhibition . More than 450 entries from nine countries were submitted and I was one of the 60 artists selected by juror Keiko Tanabe. The painting is on display at the Harbor History Museum, Gig Harbor WA .

My painting "The Old Stone House" ( yes, the same subject but a different painting) was accepted to the Baltimore Watercolor Society  2017 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition. Juror Frank Ebers.  The exhibition runs from June 17- July 15 at Blackrock Center for the Arts, Germantown, MD.

I have got a Signature Membership at Baltimore Watercolor Society, four of my best paintings were juried by a group of BWS board members in March.

I was accepted for the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival, June 6-11. I look forward to spend a week at Lake Canandaigua NY painting and make new friends. I was also accepted into Bucks County Plein Air, PA. Unfortunately the events takes place at the same time so I had to give up my spot but I know that made someone else happy.

I will post photos on my Lena Thynell Watercolor Facebook page and Instagram during the event. I hope you take a look and follow the adventure. You will find the links to Fb and Instagram on my website.
